Israel Invites Beatles to Perform for 60th Birthday | ||||||||||||

| (EZ-Tracks) - It’s been over 40 years since Israel barred the Beatles from performing in the Jewish state, but now Israel has decided to invite the surviving members of the iconic band to perform there for its 60th birthday, according to an Associated Press report. The Israeli embassy in London, however, denied a report that Israel had apologized for not permitting the band to perform there in 1965. The reason the invitation had been revoked was because Israeli officials felt the Beatles would corrupt the morals of Israel’s young people. “Israel missed a chance to learn from the most influential musicians of the decade, and the Beatles missed an opportunity to reach out to one of the most passionate audiences in the world," Israeli ambassador Ron Prosor was quoted as saying in a letter addressed to Sir Paul McCartney. The embassy said a letter was presented by Prosor to Jerry Goldman, CEO of the Beatles Story in the north England city of Liverpool. In addition to McCartney, it was also sent to Richard Starkey, better known as Ringo Starr. The invitation was to hold a concert at a gala marking Israel’s founding in May 1948. There was no word about the Beatles’ response. | ||||||||||||
