| (EZ-Tracks) - She may not have been in attendance, but Amy Winehouse dominated last night’s 50th Anniversary Grammy telecast, taking home five trophies, including best new artist and best pop vocal album for Back to Black. During the telecast, the troubled soul singer performed via satellite from London, where she had recently been treated at a rehab facility. “I can't believe I've won five awards," Winehouse said from London, dedicating her pop album of the year trophy to her hometown, parents and jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. Rapper Kanye West came in a close second, winning four awards, including best rap album for Graduation and best rap song for “Good Life.” West dedicated his wins to his mother, who recently passed away after undergoing botched plastic surgery. Both Winehouse and West were left on the sidelines for the night’s final honor, album of the year, which went to jazz great Herbie Hancock for River: The Joni Letters. “It's immeasurable how surprised I am," Hancock said Sunday night after the show. "I didn't even hear my name at first," he continued. "Then I heard the word 'River' and I said, 'Is this true? Is this happening?'" It was the 11th Grammy for the 67-year-old entertainer. Industry observers had expected either Winehouse's Back in Black or Kanye West's Graduation to take the prize. There was speculation the two may have split the vote of younger, more pop-oriented National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences voters, leaving the door open for Hancock. | ||||||||||||
