Violent Death for ABBA Drummer

Lisa Rogers, 03.17.2008, 10:55 AM
(EZ-Tracks) - Ola Brunkert, drummer for Swedish pop group ABBA, was found dead in his home in Spain on Sunday, Reuters reports.

The 62-year-old musician played on every album released by the widely successful band. Formed in the 1970s, ABBA hits such as “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia” found international chart success as well as providing the inspiration for a popular Broadway musical.

Reuters reports that Brunkert, “hit his head against a glass door in his dining room, shattering the glass and cutting himself in the neck. He managed to wrap a towel around his neck and left the house to seek help, but collapsed in the garden.”

Brunkert’s death has been ruled accidental by Spanish authorities following an investigation and autopsy.
It is tempting to make a joke about the mysterious deaths of Spinal Tap’s drummers, but that would probably be in poor taste.
