| (EZ-Tracks) - The Smashing Pumpkins were among the top bands of the alt-rock era of the ‘90s, and the group is making headlines again in 2008. However, this time it is not the musical proceedings that are garnering attention, it is the legal ones. Led by singer/guitarist Billy Corgan, AP reports that the band is involved in a breach-of-contract lawsuit alleging that Virgin Records’ use of the band’s image in promotional campaigns for Pepsi and Amazon, “threatens their reputation for ‘artistic integrity.’” Papers were filed in the suit in a Los Angeles County court stating that the label is only permitted to distribute the band’s digital music downloads, and is not authorized to use its image or music for ad campaigns or other promotional purposes. The band had been partnered with the label for 17 years, during which time they released popular albums such as Gish and Siamese Dream. After an extended hiatus, the band partially regrouped for the release of a new album, Zeitgeist, in 2007. | ||||||||||||
