| (EZ-Tracks) - Chikeze, the one-name contestant who most recently worked in baggage security at the Los Angeles International Airport, was sent packing himself on American Idol last night, as the field was trimmed to nine finalists. Chikeze was known for alternating between high energy performances like his rendition of the Beatles’ “She’s a Woman” and low-key, soulful takes on slower ballads like “If Only For One Night.” For the 22 year-old from Inglewood, California, this ballad, in particular, proved to be his undoing. Said judge Simon Cowell of Chikeze’s Tuesday night performance: "You chose the wrong song last night. ... It wasn't original." The other lowest vote-getters were Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado, whose performance had been praised by all of the judges except Cowell. Tattooed finalist Carly Smithson also took a moment during Wednesday night’s show to address rumors that she was pregnant. “Apparently I'm pregnant — but I'm not,” she said. The telecast also featured a performance by "Idol" also-ran Kimberley Locke, who came in third behind Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken in season two. | ||||||||||||
