American Idol Field Trimmed Down to Seven | ||||||||||||

| (EZ-Tracks) - It was shock for the jock night on American Idol, as Michael Johns, the Australian-born pop wannabe and accomplished tennis player, was sent packing on Thursday’s show, according to an AP report. After the ax fell, there were seven American Idol finalists remaining. The elimination came as a surprise to many since Johns, 29, had never been in the show's bottom three vote-getters and no contestants were bumped after last year's special "Idol" fundraiser. The handsome rocker, judges and his competitors all seemed stunned by the turn of events. Johns sang Aerosmith's "Dream On" during Tuesday's inspirational-themed performance show. Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson didn't think the song choice suited him, although Paula Abdul thought the selection was perfect. Carly Smithson and Syesha Mercado, who've both previously been in the bottom three, were the other lowest vote-getters. Johns’ elimination came one day after the “Idol Gives Back” fundraiser which netted about $65 million for underprivileged children around the world. | ||||||||||||
