Spears, Federline Due in Court Today | ||||||||||||

| (EZ-Tracks) - It may seem like déjà vu, but floundering pop star Britney Spears is set to appear in an LA court today to ask for renewed parental rights. AP reports that a positive showing by Spears at today’s hearing could result in a reconfigured visitation schedule, allowing her a larger role in her sons’ lives.
Spears has previously failed to attend scheduled custody hearings, a fact that likely added to the judge’s opinion against her. Spears lost custody of her sons, Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, following a much publicized incident wherein she refused to turn the children over to their father, Kevin Federline, for his scheduled visit. Spears was ultimately taken from the scene in an ambulance, and subsequently had her visitation right revoked. Those rights have since been restored in a limited capacity. The 26-year-old singer and frequent paparazzi target has had a tumultuous few months, culminating in an extended hospital stay, highly-publicized bouts of erratic behavior and reported mental distress. Tuesday's hearing will likely include discussion of a psychiatrist's evaluation of Spears, reports AP. However, Spears’ condition appears to be improving following a judge’s decision to grant (temporary) conservatorship of Spears and her affairs to her father. In recent weeks, Spears seems to have stabilized in her behavior, even appearing in a successful TV program and taking positive steps to advance, or at least maintain, her career—a move that seemed highly unthinkable during her recent tailspin. | ||||||||||||
