Elton John’s “Gnomeo and Juliet” | ||||||||||||

| (EZ-Tracks) - After Disney’s animation executives cancelled Elton John’s musical “Gnomeo and Juliet,” Elton took his project elsewhere – to Miramax films, a subsidiary of Disney. Whatever the case, it all worked out to Elton John’s benefit as Miramax has now signed on. “Gnomeo and Juliet” is set in the world of Garden Gnomes (those creepy things on people’s lawns) and will also be the first computer animated feature to be produced at Miramax. Discussing his musical, Elton John stated that he was very excited to work with Miramax and that “Gnomeo” happens to be an “edgy concept.” What exactly is so “edgy” about “Gnomeo” – other than the fact that Disney seemed to think it was a bad idea – has yet to be determined. Baker Bloodworth, nominated for a 2004 Oscar based on his work on “Destino” (an animated short set into motion by Salvador Dali and Walt Disney in 1945) will be heading up the project as the producer. | ||||||||||||
