DMC Dishes on Violence | ||||||||||||
| Lisa Rogers, 04.20.2006, 12:00 PM | ||||||||||||
| (EZ-Tracks) - In light of the rapper Proof’s death, Darryl McDaniels, better known as DMC (of Run-DMC), speaks out. He asserts that rappers should try to move away from the stale messages that promote violence and “bling,” and instead be more universal with the stories their music tells. DMC recognizes that it’s all about the “image,” but he goes on to say that rappers should have more than one image and one concept in their music – that they’re missing the concepts that promote positive attitudes, the concepts that prevent people from shooting one another. He also cites the fact that real-life violence among rappers is so commonplace that people have come to expect it. He goes on to say that all the stuff rappers are trying to get away from is exactly what ends up killing them. DMC speaks from experience as he lost Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay in 2002. Jam Master Jay was killed in a shooting. | ||||||||||||
