Hicks Beat Shakira

(EZ-Tracks) - Taylor Hicks, American Idol’s Season Five Winner, has finally beaten Shakira on the Billboard Hot 100. Hicks has moved close to 200,000 physical units as well as close to 50,000 digital downloads. Hicks’ “Do I Make You Proud” knocked Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie” down a peg – however, this was not exactly the surprise “upset” that some make it out to seem. Idol winners like Taylor are surely making the creators of American Idol proud – especially when you factor in the past success of other Idol Stars such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. However, despite the obvious success of Taylor and his singing talent, it remains to be seen if he will continue to grow as a musical artist or become known as a one hit wonder. Fans of Taylor Hicks should be happy to know that many believe that Taylor did not surpass Shakira by some fluke of luck, but by his singing skills, charm, and charisma.

One thing’s for sure – Taylor Hicks is no William Hung… Remember, that’s a good thing.
