German Prosecutors Let Madonna Slide

(EZ-Tracks) - German prosecutors lost their teeth when it came to Madonna and her mock crucifixion. Although Germany has strict anti-defamation laws when it comes to religion, Germany decided to look the other way because Madonna is a celebrity. Most recently, Madonna’s crucifixion angered many in Italy. Roman Catholic leaders condemned Madonna’s performance as an attack on their faith. German prosecutors let Madonna slide because Madonna’s representatives told them that she wasn’t actually offensive. When it came down to the crux of the matter, German authorities decided that Catholic religious officials were unfit to recognize an attack on their own religion and that Madonna’s PR juggernaut would have the last say. Prosecutors went a step further expressing that Madonna’s mockery of Christ was protected thanks to laws regarding “artistic license.”

It’s a wonderful thing how celebrities are above political correctness, religious tolerance, and international law – I mean, how would everyone else know how to behave themselves if it weren’t for celebrities just doing their thing.
