| (EZ-Tracks) - If you thought the highpoint of Super Bowl XLI was going to be Devon Hester’s run back for a touchdown on the opening kickoff, you were wrong. Prince eclipsed all of the athletic showmanship with a rollicking half-time show. With the rain beating down, his purpleness marched onto the stage in a fitted blue suit and a black doo rag and started belting out a series of rousing rock anthems, including “We Will Rock You” and “Let’s Go Crazy.” Observant fans would have noticed that the shape of the stage itself was the symbol that Prince changed his name to several years back. The consummate entertainer, Prince danced and guitar-jammed as he segued into “Proud Mary.” Then, he switched his guitar and the lights dimmed as he launched into his classic, “Purple Rain.” During the entire Prince performance, the fans by the stage where going wild. When the performer wrapped up his powerhouse set followed by a massive fireworks display, the crowd went crazy. As well they might. After all these years, Prince hasn’t lost his flair for creating a spectacle. He came across as even more brilliant when you compare his performance to Billy Joel’s anemic rendition of the national anthem. Even without a ‘costume malfunction,’ Prince thrilled us. And, at 48, he didn’t seem a day older then when he belted out the lyric “party like it’s 1999.” | ||||||||||||
