A composer whose talent knew no bounds, George Gershwin created both
classical and
jazz music, as well as iconic tunes for the American musical theater. Born Jacob Gershowitz in Brooklyn, New York on September 26, 1898, he began his musical career as a song-plugger on Tin Pan Alley, but was soon writing his own pieces.
