One of the leading bands in the Philadelphia soul movement of the 70s, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes had a distinct sound that attracted fans throughout the
country. Born on June 25, 1939, in Philadelphia, Melvin himself was a self-taught pianist, who began singing doo wop as a teenager with a group called the Charlemagnes.
