With his poignant storytelling and down-to-earth demeanor, Jim Croce left an indelible mark on the folk rock genre before his untimely death in a plane crash at age 30. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 10, 1943, Croce played the accordion as a child and would eventually teach himself the guitar.
