Johann Strauss II was a highly influential 19th century Austrian composer who not only elevated the lowly waltz to an entertainment fit for the Royal Habsburg court, but created many fine polkas, marches and operettas, as well. Johann Strauss II was born on October 25, 1825, as the first son of Johann Strauss Sr.
