Kelis Rogers-Jones who was born Kelis Rogers and is known as just Kelis in the music world, she was born on August 21st 1979 in Harlem, NY. Her name is actually a combination of her father's name, Kenneth, an African American jazz musician and her mother's name Eveliss a Chinese-Puerto Rican fashion designer. When she was younger, Kelis played the saxophone, piano, and violin and was also an active member in her church's choir while she attended Manhattan Country School.
