Louis Armstrong pictures show the most famous jazz trumpeter of the 20th Century. Jazz’s first great improviser, Armstrong began playing in New Orleans clubs and saloons in his early teens. By the 1920’s Armstrong was touring the country and leading his own band, the Hot Five. His gravelly voice and sunny persona even made him popular amongst non- jazz fans, and in his later years he would become jazz’s ambassador to the world.
