The first Latin group to become popular throughout the world, Menudo continues to perform and record with a whole new cast of characters. Formed in 1977, by producer Edgardo Diaz, the group originally consisted of Puerto Rican teenage brothers Carlos, Oscar, and Ricky Melendez, as well as Nefty and Fernando Sallaberry, Menudo toured Puerto Rico performing at shopping malls, fiestas patronales (a citywide yearly celebration), and other events.
