Known as the inventor of soul music, Sam Cooke managed to appeal to black and white audiences of all ages, leaving an indelible mark on the genre he created. He was born Sam Cook in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on January 22, 1931, one of eight children of a Baptist minister and his wife.

Mr. Soul. such a sweet voice. This man should get more credit for advancing soul music. He had such range. He helped and inspired other artists from Otis Redding to Rod Stewart, Van Morrison. He was an awesome talent and I hope younger people take a listen to some Sam Cooke, especialy his live sessions. Gary W.
