Smashing Pumpkins pictures show one of the
major alternative rock bands of the 1990s.
Formed in Chicago in 1988, the band was less
influenced by punk rock than any of its
contemporaries. Pumpkins have a diverse,
densely layered and guitar-heavy sound,
containing elements of gothic rock, heavy
metal, dream pop, psychedelic rock,
progressive rock, shoegazer-style production
and, in later recordings, electronica. Pumpkins
photos shoe frontman Billy Corgan is the
group's primary songwriter.
