Combining alternative rock with a Coldplay style indie sound, the Northern Irish band Snow Patrol have made a name for themselves creating tasteful tales of relationships both good and bad. Originally formed in late 1994 as "Shrug" by students Gary Lightbody and Mark McClelland at the University of Dundee in Dundee, Scotland, the band started by performing gigs at the university and surrounding pubs before changing their name to Polar Bear in late 1995, and to Snow Patrol in 1997.
