One of Seattle's first grunge bands, Soundgarden paved the way for all of the bands that would later break down the doors for alternative rock. The group consisted of two Illinois natives who moved to Washington to go to college, but got involved with the music scene instead-- Kim Thayil (guitar) and Hiro Yamamoto (bass).
