Generally credited with coining the term, "reggae," Jamaica's Toots and the Maytals helped lay the foundation for all who would follow in the genre. Toots Hibbert spent his first 15 years in a small town in the Jamaican countryside; he left home for Kingston in 1961 and formed a vocal trio there with Nathaniel Matthias and Raleigh Gordon.
