The second-generation Zune Player in both 4 and 8 gig models is a very portable version of the slightly bulkier, less streamlined original player for free music for Zune. These smaller counterparts use flash memory instead of the hard drive in the original 30 gig and the second-generation 80 gig hard drive version. This new small design is good for short trip and exercise use, like walking through Manhattan or running on your treadmill. This also makes it a good player for someone who doesn't want to carry around a huge collection of downloadable music for Zune and just his or her favorite tunes.

The Zune features the ability to use data on other Zunes and listen to other people's Zune music downloads wirelessly. This feature that is unique to the Zune makes it a great device to have on a trip or in a public place to expand your horizons. The Zune can also sync wirelessly when it charges within a known wi-fi network.

The Zune comes in a neat little package. A little brick shaped MP3 player, it has a very flat streamlined design. It comes with a crystal clear 1.8 inch color display and has very few buttons to prevent confusion. The entire case is well sealed to prevent tampering and damage to internal parts.

Free Zune Music Downloads

The Zune can play a whole plethora of free Zune music downloads, however it cannot play protected audio files. As for the actual quality of the audio, it's very good. The headphones it comes with are higher quality it seems than the standard Apple iPod headphones, however they do get tangled easily, even with the magnetic buds that stick together to "prevent tangling".

The Zune features a very easy to use user interface, with bold labeling that lights up as you scroll around your free music for Zune. The control itself is a touchpad located on the front of the player. This touchpad takes only a second to get used to, and off you go through the menus to easily locate your free downloadable Zune music and other functions. Many other MP3 player reviews agree however that it is almost impossible to get music on the Zune when you first use it. Getting it properly connected to the computer and transferring files could be a long endeavor, however once you figure it out once it should work every time.

The Zune plays free music almost flawlessly. There's virtually no lag, and music starts to play almost instantly after selection. The battery life is conciderable, but could be better. It would be nice to be able to take it on longer trips with longer video clips.

The final review? The new Zune is a reliable little MP3 Player if you can get download free music for Zune, and a pretty good bang for your buck. $129.99 for the 4 gig model and $179.99 for the 8 gig is a little more than you pay for some other brands equivalent devices, but the fact that you can share data with other Zunes and that it has the Microsoft brand name make it a good buy for the price.
