The Samsung YP-P2 is the answer to the extremely popular Apple iTouch. The touch screen navigation and absolute lack of regular buttons put it in the new realm of screen shifting MP3 / Multimedia devices. For the cost, the P2 is an amazing device, providing features on a grand scale.
Features
The P2 is loaded with features that make it top of the line. Starting with the crisp 3 inch backlit screen, that will display video at an impressive 30 frames per second. It also has Bluetooth support for headsets and phones, an FM Tuner/Recorder, a calendar, and it can receive RSS feeds. You can also hook it up to Napster, Rhapsody, Winamp, or Windows Media Player to transfer music and video in playlists.
Design
The P2 is in a stylish and sleek little case. Shorter and thinner than the iTouch, it fits very easily in the hand and in your pocket. It has very conveniently located volume buttons on the side that pop out enough to feel without looking. One small complaint I have that other MP3 player reviews do not is that the headphone jack is located at the bottom, which is good in some cases but very annoying when you repeatedly pull it out of your pocket upside down.
Audio Quality
The P2 has very high quality playback, even with the radio function. The lows do get a little fuzzy at times, but if you use the EQ properly and listen with a nice pair of headphones it balances out fine. The headphones it comes with.... Are not the best, but they definitely make due for a stock pair.
Interface
The user interface is very easy to use. When you first turn on the Samsung P2 the menu is in a scroll interface where you have to warp through the selections. This can be a little confusing, but it's very easy to change to either of 2 other views that are simpler to navigate. The buttons are a good size for the average finger, which is nice because touch screen technology is easier to use when you can actually hit the buttons.
Performance
The battery lasts just about exactly as long as it's supposed to, and holds up well to recharging. The player itself really never lags or freezes, and shifts through menus smoothly. The video player is very good, displaying at 30 frames per second, making quality very smooth.
All in all the Samsung YP-P2 is a very good, reliable touch screen multimedia player. It's a great value for its price, and seems to be very resistant to damage so it'll stick around a while.
