The SanDisk Sansa e200 series is a small form factor, very simple and reasonably priced MP3 player. It comes in four different versions, 2, 4, 6, and 8 gig, the e250, e260, e270, and e280 respectively. Its very well deigned and has a nice modern look to it. The casing is black and the scroll wheel on the front glows a deep blue.
The e200 series features a 1.8 inch TFT screen, FM radio and radio recording, a voice recorder, and a MicroSD memory expansion slot.
The Sansa e200 is a small, sleek, black, and fairly durable. It has a top mounted headphone jack, and the MicroSD slot is located on the right side of the player. The button layout is very simple, around the blue glowing circular scroll wheel, and the record button is conveniently located on the left side of the player. Other MP3 player reviews agree however, that the lack of a side mounted volume button is a disappointment.
The audio quality for the e200 series is adequate for an average pair of headphones, however when using high quality headphones it could use a little boost. The player originally had no custom EQ when it hit the market, however subsequent firmware updates have remedied that problem. The new EQ system allows a good amount of customization and makes listening with high quality headphones much better.
The menu interface takes a little exploring at first, however it is very intuitive. Scrolling through all your music takes only a second with the scroll wheel, and after you get used to the controls you can operate the player almost blind. The menus all look very clean and professional, and they never really lag, at least not noticeably.
The battery stands up for a solid 15 - 17 hours even though it is rated to 20. It could easily get 20 hours but a lot of factors come into play with battery life. The player itself only lags when saving a recording or switching to radio mode. The menus operate smoothly at every turn and the songs always flow into each other without a problem. The only blatant flaw is that the video player can only play QuickTime format natively, however SanDisk supplies the Sansa Media Converter to convert your videos to QuickTime format.
The Sansa e200 series is definitely one of the more reliable players on the market today, and its very well priced for the features included. If your looking for a small flash player with all the features of a big hard drive unit, this is most likely the player for you.
