Combs signed the group to his new Bad Boy Records. Combs signed on as the executive producer of 112's self-titled debut album, which featured songs the group co-wrote with such professional songwriters as Stevie J, Wayna Morris of Boyz II Men, and Combs himself. Based on the strength of two chart busting R&B singles—"Only You" and "Come See Me"—the album earned its way to gold status, and placed 112 and Bad Boy on the map. A series of hot single tracks by 112 populated the charts in 1997, beginning with "Come See Me," which hit the top 40 in January. "Cupid," released in May, made the top 40 and was certified gold in the same month. By August the track went platinum. Another 1997 single, "I'll Be Missing You," hit the top 40 in June and was certified triple platinum by July. Attaining the number one chart position by August, the song won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997, and made 112 superstars.
In 1998, 112 released Room 112, which was less successful than its predecessors, but still had the hits, "Love Me" and "Anywhere". They followed up three years later with Part III, Following declining sales, 112 left Bad Boy for 2003's Hot & Wet, and the group cemented its new relationship with Def Soul on 2005's Pleasure & Pain, which eventually reached platinum status and featured the popular single "U Already Know."." Says Slim of 112: "We stand for class, excellence, positivity and longevity in whatever we do. We fought for the money and the power. Now we want the respect. We want to be known as the best hip hop R&B group of our era."
