Afroman music biography continued...
song was soon featured on Howard Stern's radio show as well as on the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Soundtrack. His music influences include Too Short, Big Daddy Kane, and 2 Live Crew.
As a teen in the eighth grade, Foreman began rapping and making homemade tapes to distribute out to classmates. He then performed the drums at his local church and eventually moved on to play the guitar.
In November of 1999, Foreman released his first album, Sell Your Dope. He promoted the album by playing parties in Los Angeles and entering contests. The rapper soon became dissatisfied with the L.A. lifestyle and moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He began working on his second LP with drummer Jody Stallone and keyboardist/bassist Daryl Havard and producer Tim Ramenofsky in the spring of 2000. Because I Got High was soon being distributed at shows with the help of Hattiesburg label T-Bone Records. However it was through Afroman's performances and by word of mouth that the song was eventually posted on Napster.
The song gained much attention on the Howard Stern show and triggered the interest of Universal Records. Afroman was signed to the label for a six album deal. The first to be released was The Good Times which was a compilation including songs from his first two albums along with a few new ones. "Because I Got High" was then featured in the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back film and became a worldwide hit in the end of 2001.
Following a three year absence, Afroman returned independently in 2004 writing, recording and producing the double disc Afroholic...The Even Better Times. The album was promoted on his internet site. Several lyrics on this album suggest the rapper to be a born again Christian claiming to have found Jesus after a life of sex and drugs. Other more recent releases include the holiday album Jobe Bells in 2004 as well Drunk'n'High in 2006.
