Agnes music biography continued...

Vänersborg, Sweden, Agnes began taking professional singing classes at age 8 and sang in a local choir named "Voice." In the spring of 2005, a 17-year-old Carlsson auditioned for the second season of popular Swedish singing competition Idol in Göteborg, singing "Varje Gång Jag Ser Dig" by Lisa Nilsson. The four judges were all hugely impressed by the strong power of her voice and she successfully passed through to the theatre rounds of the contest. Agnes was not an early fan favorite, however, and she only got to be in the finals by getting a judge's choice pass. Despite the lack of early public support, Agnes went on to wow both the judges and the public during every week of the finals, and as a result made it into the grand finale without ever falling into the bottom two or three contestants. She defeated runner-up Sebastian Karlsson in the finale and was crowned as the second Swedish Idol, and the first female to win the competition.

Immediately after winning Idol, Agnes signed a recording contract with Sony BMG and her debut single, "Right Here Right Now" was released. A week later, the song debuted at number one on the Swedish singles chart, a position it held for six weeks. Her self-titled debut album came out in 2006 and also peaked at number one. Her second album, Stronger was released on October 2006, less than a year after the release of her debut. Like its predecessor, Stronger debuted at number one on the albums chart behind such singles as "Champion" and "Love Is All Around." Subsequently, Agnes split with Sony over creative differences and signed with Roxy Records. In January 2009, Roxy issued Agnes' first international single, "Release Me," which raced up the charts worldwide, peaking at #1 in the UK. It was followed by the album Dance, Love, Pop, which did equally well in several countries, and positioned Agnes for the global acclaim she had only dreamed of a few years earlier.
