The country rock band Alabama were the most commercially successful country act in the 1980s and remain one of the bestselling American musical acts of all time.
The band consisted of Randy Owen on vocals and guitar, Teddy Genty on vocals and bass, Jeff Cook on vocals, lead guitar, keyboards, and Mark Herdon on the drums. The group signed a record contract with GRT in 1977 and released their single “I Wanna Be With You Tonight,” which had minimal success.

hey liked. “I Wanna Come Over” made some waves in the country music charts, as did “My Home’s in Alabama,” which reached Top 20 on the billboard charts. RCA soon realized the band’s talent and used their marketing and distribution power to push Alabama to the top of the country record charts. Throughout the mid 80’s the band released 21 singles that reached number 1 on the Billboard’s country singles chart. The band is noted for having the longest streak of consecutive
number 1 singles.
In 1987 Alabama released “The Touch” which became their 21st chart toper. The group continued to record through 1993 and are presently still playing music. Alabama’s success paved the way for many young country artists today.
