parents when he was four. Notably, Rybak's parents are Natallia Valiantsinauna Rybak, a classical pianist, and Ihar Aliaksandravich Rybak, a well-known classical violinist who performs alongside Pinchas Zukerman. Since he was 10, Rybak has been a student at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo. In 2004, he took a break from his studies to compete in the Norwegian version of American Idol and made it to the semifinals. In 2006 Rybak won Kjempesjansen, a talent competition hosted by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), with his own song "Foolin.'" He entered the 54th Annual Eurovision Song contest held in Moscow in 2009 and wound up winning with the highest vote count in the competition's history, thanks to a song he wrote and performed called "Fairytale." In the same year, he released the album Fairytale. And come to think of it, that's exactly what Rybak's musical life is shaping up to be.
