and Alfred Nevarez, who met in a California studio where they each sang commercial jingles. They were soon joined by a talented local vocalist, Delicious Kennedy. The group auditioned for L.A.-based Blitzz Records during a time when vocal quartets were en vogue, and quickly scored a recording contract with their rendition of the classic doo-wop tune, "So Much In Love." Their self-titled debut disc appeared in 1994, and catapulted to the top of the charts based on an a cappella version of "So Much In Love" and a cover of country star John Michael Montgomery's "I Swear." The latter tune was a smash, topping the pop charts for 11 weeks and becoming the year's biggest selling single. "I Swear" also won a Grammy Award in 1995 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, establishing the group as superstars. Soul fans looking for the group's second album to be a reaffirmation of their commitment to the genre were disappointed by the follow-up disc, And The Music Speaks because it veered away from soul and into adult contemporary territory. After a delay, the group came back with their finest soul album ever, 1999's On and On, which featured two evocative ballads "Time To Come Home" and "I Will Be Right Here," and reestablished their credentials in the music industry.
After more record company skirmishes, All-4-One needed to make a comeback in the eyes of their soul fans and tried to do so unsuccessfully on 2002's A41, which had more of an adult contemporary feel to it. Their 2004 album, Split Personality, was given an Asia-only release, and subsequently gave them Asian hits with "Someone Who Lives in Your Heart and "I Just Wanna Be Your Everything." The group continues to tour South East Asia, in cities such as Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok and Shanghai. They have a new deal in place on Peak Records/Concord Music Group and are readying for future releases.
