a reason to celebrate. Born in Los Angeles in 1989 and 1991 respectively, the girls showed a passion for singing and acting at a very young age: they started playing piano at age six and began acting classes soon after. As the Michalkas learned piano and guitar, they also landed acting and modeling gigs, which prepared them to pursue both careers more seriously once the family returned to southern California. The road to stardom was paved when Alyson landed the role of Keely Teslow on Disney Channel's children series "Phil of the Future", a plum role that allowed her to sing as well as act. Apparently gained notice from other Disney's division, Walt Disney Records, she thus was given chance to contribute a song entitled "Jingle Bell Rock" in the 2004's "Radio Disney Jingle Jams" with her sister, Amanda, under the stage name Aly & AJ. As the result of the exposure, the duo landed a record contract with Hollywood Records, a division of Disney, and released the album Into the Rush in August 2005. The CD did incredibly well, breaking into the Top 40 of the Billboard 200, and solidifying the sister-act as a viable commercial act.



Following their breakout success, the Michalka sisters recorded the holiday album Acoustic Hearts of Winter in 2006. In 2007 the sisters released their sophomore record, Insomniatic. Time magazine named the single off the album, "Potential Breakup Song," one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007, ranking it at #9. The release of the album was accompanied by starring roles in the MTV movie version of the hit television show My Super Sweet 16, further raising the sisters' profile. In addition to filming on several movies, the girls are said to be going for a rockier and more adult orientated sound in their upcoming third studio album, and this time, they intend to sing separately (as in not harmonize their voices), to make fans know who is singing. Their third studio album will most likely return to the pop-rock and adult contemporary sound of Into the Rush, giving their millions of fans exactly what they want.
