soon moved to New York City, where her mother was involved in Broadway musical theater. In 1999, she attracted the interest of record labels after making the finals of MTV talent show The Cut. Anastacia signed a contract with Daylight Records, a custom label of Sony BMG's Epic Records in March 1999, and came out with her debut album, Not That Kind in 2000. Propelled by the single "I'm Outta Love," the album was a massive success in Europe, Asia and Australia, though it barely dented the charts in the US. Her second album, Freak of Nature achieved decent sales although it did not match the level of international success of Not That Kind. Nevertheless, Anastacia, who had become known for her powerful vocals, joined such female superstars as Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Cher and Stevie Nicks, for VH1's Divas Live in 2002. She further broke into the American market with "Love is a Crime" a tune which appeared on the soundtrack to the movie Chicago and peaked at #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, affording Anastacia her first taste of truly international success.



In 1993, after battling back from breast cancer, Anastacia changed her sound to something she called sprock—a combination of pop, soul and rock—and recorded a self-titled album that was a major hit in Europe thanks to such singles as "Left Alone Outside," "Sick and Tired" and "Welcome to My Truth." From September 2004 to August 2005, Anastacia went on a "Live at Last Tour". She followed the trek up with her first greatest hits collection, Pieces of a Dream, The album contained a duet with Eros Ramazzotti "I Belong to You", which was a huge hit in Europe, charting and peaking in the top ten in almost all the European countries. By now, Anastacia was so popular in Europe that she was rewarded with her own clothing and perfume lines, but she still continues to record and perform, bringing joy to the countless fans who have stood by her side through thick and thin.
