Ashlee Simpson (born Ashley Nicole Simpson October 3, 1984) the younger sister of mega celebrity Jessica Simpson, has over the past few years developed her own persona as a successful actress, pop rock singer and songwriter. Although making her debut on the popular television show 7th Heaven, she is better recognized by her hit single “Pieces of Me” off of her 2004 album Autobiography.

the School of American Ballet in New York City by eleven years old. A troubling eating disorder led her to retire from ballet and move to Los Angeles with her family. Finding work appearing in several television commercials, Ashlee eventually became a backup dancer for her sister Jessica during her first tour. She returned to acting in 2001 landing a role on Malcolm in the Middle, as well as an appearance in the 2002 film The Hot Chick. Soon afterwards she scored a recurring role on the hit TV drama 7th Heaven. A year later she became an MTV VJ on Total Request Live and issued her first single “Just Let Me Cry” in the film Freaky Friday which starred Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Signed to Geffen Records, Ashlee released Autobiography which debuted at number one in July 2004, eventually outselling her sister’s most successful album, In the Skin. The lead single “Pieces of Me” became an instant hit in several countries. The follow-up singles “Shadow” and “La La” were not as successful however the album continued to receive attention as it was heavily promoted on the singer’s reality TV series The Ashlee Simpson Show. Ashlee’s detrimental Saturday Night Live appearance triggered a stream of negative publicity when she was caught lip synching during her performance. On January 4, 2005, she performed “La La” on the Orange Bowl half-time show and was booed by spectators. Despite all the heat and negative criticism, Simpson has remained positive.

Prior to the release of her sophomore album, Ashlee landed a supporting role in the independent film Undiscovered. I Am Me was issued in October 2005 displaying Simpson’s new 80s inspired pop rock sound. The lead single “Boyfriend” placed in the Top Twenty and was followed by “L.O.V.E”. Although the album premiered at number one, it failed to generate sales as high as Autobiography. I Am Me will supposedly be re-released featuring Ashlee’s new single “Invisible”, however the date is yet to be confirmed.
