Ashley Tisdale music biography continued...
2, 1985. After being noticed in a shopping mall by her current manager when she was 3 years old, she went on to land parts in over one hundred national network commercials. At the age of 8, she got a leading role in the Broadway musical, Les Misérables and later toured internationally with the cast of Annie. During the late 1990s, Tisdale had guest appearances in several television series, including Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed. In 2005, Tisdale was cast in the role of Maddie Fitzpatrick on the Disney series, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. As the series became popular, Tisdale became a featured performer on the Disney Channel. Her big break came when she was cast as Sharpay Evans in Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical, which became a major success for the channel after its premiere on January 20, 2006. She reprised the role in High School Musical 2, released in 2007.
Tisdale's role in High School Musical required her to perform several songs, including such tunes as "What I've Been Looking For", "Bop to the Top", and "We're All in This Together." All three managed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, Tisdale made music history by being the first female artist ever to debut with two songs simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 with "What I've Been Looking For" and "Bop to the Top." Tisdale's first solo album, Headstrong, came out in February 2007, debuting at #5 in the Billboard 200 album chart. Her first single, "He Said She Said," written by J.R. Rotem and Evan "Kidd" Bogart, was released in three different versions—the Radio Disney version for children: a version Tisdale sings during the Disney High School Musical tour; and an "explicit" version which mentions touching and kissing and is for mature audiences. Disney-watchers say Tisdale's music is different than today's teen pop music and it has more or less the sound of the Backstreet Boys' Black and Blue album combined with NSYNC's No Strings Attached and The Spice Girls Spiceworld. It's a sound that Ashley Tisdale fans the world over have come to love and which has resulted in a deep attachment to a young woman of uncommon star quality.
