caught the eye of record producers who wanted to mold her into a hard-edged Britney Spears. She disabused them of such notions by coming out with bouncy Lavigne songs like "Sk8er Boi" and "Complicated," a tune that was featured on the teen television show, Dawson's Creek. In 2002, at the age of 17, the singer saw her debut album, Let Go, released. It garnered her five Grammy nominations. Her next album, Under My Skin, was released in 2004 and reached number one on the Billboard album charts. In 2006 she announced a deal with the prestigious Ford Models agency, and told Harpers Bazaar magazine she was hoping "to do those really beautiful ads with high-end products." Throwing her 'punk' tag even further out the window, she released the single "Girlfriend," a bubbly teen-pop tune from her 2007 album The Best Damn Thing. Lavigne scored her first ever Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit to date with the song. In 2006, Lavigne wed Deryck Whibley, frontman for the band Sum 41 and a fellow Canadian. In the same year, she was ranked the seventh most powerful Canadian in Hollywood by Canadian Business Magazine. Contrary to popular belief, Lavigne does not speak French.
