B.J. Thomas music biography continued...
Thomas Thomas sang in a church choir as a teenager then joined the musical group The Triumphs. In 1966, B. J. Thomas and The Triumphs scored a hit single in a cover of the Hank Williams tune, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". In the same year, Thomas released a solo album of the same name off Scepter Records. Thomas was back on the charts in 1968 with the single "Hooked on a Feeling", but would achieve even greater success with 1969's "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head", which was featured in the hit movie, 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.' The Oscar-winning tune also became the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1970. In 1975, after a string of hits, Thomas released the album Reunion (ABC Records), which contained what would become his second number one hit single, "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song," and establish Thomas as a viable country vocalist as well. For the next decade and beyond, he continued to have hits on the country charts, with a couple of songs -- most notably "Don't Worry Baby" -- crossing over into the pop charts. During this period, he switched record companies several times, but it did nothing to slow the pace of his hits. Thomas hit his country peak in 1983 and 1984, when he had the number-one hits "Whatever Happened to Old Fashioned Love" and "New Looks From an Old Lover," as well as the Top Ten hits "The Whole World's in Love When You're Lonely" and "Two Car Garage."
With his distinct voice and uplifting messages, Thomas remains a crowd favorite to this day. The singer has recently been welcomed by fans of Contemporary Christian Music., charting his first single since the late 1980s, with "You Call That a Mountain" from an album of the same name. In October 2007, B.J. Thomas released "Love to Burn", an album of all new material, which clearly indicates that he's got even more to give.
