50 Cent. In August 2005, everything Baby Boy owned was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, but he vowed to reclaim his life as a rising rap star. In 2006 Q93 in New Orleans began to play his single “
The Way I Live”. The single became an instant hit and in 3 weeks was the number 1 record at the station. The buzz in the city started to spill over and major labels began to take notice. Universal Republic Records jumped on the opportunity and signed Baby Boy as their premiere Hip Hop act.
In 2007 Baby Boy's debut album; Across The Water was released in March 2007. Across The Water entered the charts at #26 on the Billboard Hot 200 and #14 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album's single, "The Way I Live" received moderate airplay and helped the newcomer sell 25,700 discs in its first week on the shelves. Other hot Baby Boy Da Prince songs off the album included “Naw Meen” and “Lock Me Down.” If Hurricane Katrina couldn’t level Baby Boy, then it’s clear nothing else thrown at him will. This hip hop artist has nothing but a bright future ahead of him.
