A.J. McLean, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson, and Howie Dorough. In the summer of 2003, Kevin Richardson left the band.
The band's creator was Lou Pearlman and the group was complete on April 19th, 1993 when Brian Littrell joined the band. After joining with Jive records, the band recorded their first single "We've Got It Going On" which didn't do well in the U.S but thrived in Europe.
In 1997, they came back to America with their second album, "Quit Playing Games With My Heart" which hit it big in America and Europe. After the release of this album, the band sued Lou Pearlman numerous times because they believed he was cheating them out of their money. The case ended up being settled in 1998.
Millennium, their third album, was a massive hit selling over 30 million copies worldwide. The first single "I Want it That Way" was number one in 18 countries. There next album, Black & Blue, continued on with unbelievable success all over the world causing the Backstreet Boys to become household names. Then in October 2001, they came out with a greatest hits record even though it was still early in their career.
A break was desperately needed for the boys at this point which lasted from 2002-2004. During the time off the boys worked on solo projects and took time to spend with family.
Their come back album entitled Never Gone was released in 2005 and has sold over 3 million copies worldwide. They are currently working on a new album without Kevin and it is rumored to be coming out some time this year.
