Bad Company music biography continued...

two former members of Free, singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke; former Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs; and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. Their 1974 debut album Bad Company peaked at #1 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart (North America) and included two singles that reached the top 20 charts, "Can't Get Enough" at #5 in 1974 and "Movin' On" at #19 in early 1975.The album went on to be an international hit, selling in excess of 12 million albums worldwide. In 1975, Straight Shooter gave the group another #1 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart. The album also spawned two hit singles, "Good Lovin' Gone Bad" at #36 and the slower "Feel Like Makin' Love" at #10. It was followed by Run With the Pack, the group's third consecutive album to go platinum. On Desolation Angels (which included the Rodgers-penned hit "Rock and Roll Fantasy," number 13, 1979), Bad Company added synthesizers and strings to embellish their sound and deliver another wildly popular album. A three-year hiatus followed before the release of Rough Diamonds, the group's final LP in its original incarnation.

In 1986, Ralphs and Kirke resurrected the Bad Company name, calling on former Ted Nugent vocalist Brian Howe to replace Rodgers. The new configuration fared poorly at first, but with 1990's Holy Water, they returned to form as the power ballad "If You Needed Somebody" became a Top 20 success. Here Comes Trouble, issued in 1992, achieved platinum status, and earned another Top 40 hit with "How About That." On their 20th Anniversary the band expanded their lineup and came out with the live retrospective The Best of Bad Company Live...What You Hear Is What You Get. In 1998, the original line-up reunited and contributed four new songs, including the single "Hey, Hey," to the 2-CD set The "Original" Bad Co. Anthology. Their place in rock and roll history secured, the original line-up embarked on a farewell tour in 1999.
