huge success. After sending their single “Spick and Specks” to Robert Stigwood, they were quickly signed. The group’s first English recording was “New York Mining Disaster 1941,” which made the Top 20 in the U.K. and U.S. charts. The group soon followed with “To Love Somebody.” As the Bee Gees continued to release albums, they were noted for having exceptional production on their tracks. The single “Massachusetts” was also a chart-topper that launched the group into stardom.
In 1969 the group had a downfall when they could not agree on the next single. Robin was the first to leave, recording a solo album while the other brothers released the Cucumber Castle album. The rest of the group broke off shortly after but continued to record and make solo hits. After a two year break the group reformed and began to make hit music again.
The Bee Gees released several more albums throughout the late 60’s and early 70’s. The group’s most famous work came from the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “Night Fever” made the album number one for 24 weeks. This was the start of the disco era. The Bee Gees continue to record and get radio play, making them one of the biggest groups of all time.
