Belinda Carlisle music biography continued...

everywhere. Belinda Jo Kerzcheski was born August 17, 1958, in Hollywood, California. She earned an athletic scholarship to college, but turned it down intent on pursuing a musical career. In 1978, just as the punk movement was gaining steam, she formed the Go-Gos as a vocalist with her friend Jane Wiedlin on rhythm guitar, Charlotte Caffey on lead guitar, Kathy Valentine on bass, and Gina Schock on drums. The Go-Gos became an almost immediate success and with such hits as "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed" became the first female band to top the charts. Despite their success, the Gos-Gos split up in 1985 amidst drug abuse and internal dissention. Belinda struck out on her own and in her self-titled 1986 debut album, she proved she had the chops for a solo career with the chart topping song, "Mad About You." Carlisle wowed audiences even more with her 1987 album, Heaven On Earth, which spawned such hit Belinda Carlisle songs as "Heaven Is A Place On Earth," Circle In The Sand" and "I Get Weak."
A veritable pop queen and survivor, Carlisle has also made a foray into film, acting small parts in several movies and composing songs for the soundtracks to films like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion and 200 Cigarettes. The singer reunited with the Go-Gos for a brief period in the early 90s and continued to record solo albums throughout the decade. In 2001, she again briefly reunited with the Go-Gos. In 2007, Carlisle released her seventh album Voilà, which was her first solo studio work of full album length in over ten years. Carlisle is married to actor/producer Morgan Mason, the son of James Mason, and together they have a son, James Duke Mason. Leaving behind a life of heroin abuse and fluctuating weight, Belinda is now a mother and always a legend.
