the late 1980s in their hometown, before moving to Larry Pignagnoli's Off Limits production studio in the mid 1990s, creating dance music for various acts, including Whigfield, J.K. and Ally & Jo. Benassi first hit the clubs with his own projects in 2001 with the single "I Feel So Fine." Dropped under the name KMC with vocals by Dhany, the track first catapulted up the charts in Benassi's native Italy, but soon became a number one hit in the UK, as well. In 2002, Benassi became a worldwide success with "Satisfaction," a track promoted by high profile DJs like Carl Cox, Darren Emerson, and Roger Sanchez. With an accompanying video that showed models using power tools, the song vaulted to #2 in the UK. In 2003, Benassi released his first solo album debut, Hypnotica. The quirky disc garnered Benassi a European Border Breakers Award in 2004, and the album soon after racked up the most sales for an Italian album outside of Italy. Benny then produced a group with cousin Alle, called Benassi Bros., a project designed to showcase vocalists, Paul French and Violeta (The Biz) and other guest singers. A year after the release of Hypnotica, Pumphonia marked their first full length release. And then in 2005, Benassi Bros. dropped a second album called Phobia. The same year, Benny founded Pump-Kin Music, a label dedicated to giving exposure to unsigned producers. However, he continued to release singles and remixes, many of which topped the European charts. By the time Rock 'n' Rave came out in June 2008, Benny Benassi had established himself as a European dance icon.
