Bette Midler music biography continued...

1, 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She took to singing and acting at an early age, won a number of talent contests and relocated to New York City in where, before long, she was cast as the eldest daughter, Tzeitel, in the 1966 hit musical 'Fiddler on the Roof', on Broadway. In the early 70s, Midler developed a nightclub act as a comedienne and a singer, performing show tunes and pop ballads to the accompaniment of an as yet undiscovered Barry Manilow.
Ahmet Ertugun, the president of Atlantic Records, heard Midler sing at a nightclub and immediately signed her to the label. Her debut album, 'The Divine Miss M', released in November 1972, reached number nine on the American Billboard's Top 200 Chart, before going platinum with several hit Bette Midler songs. The Midler phenomenon was spreading and she was presented her first Grammy Award in 1973 for Best New Artist. Not content to sit on her laurels, the driven Midler then toured the world with the Tony award winning play 'Clams On the Halfshell', before returning to Broadway. She also recorded her second album, 'Bette Midler' (1973), followed by 'Songs for the New Depression' (1976).
Starting in the late 70s, Midler combined her acting and singing skills to land several other prime film roles. She acted and sang in 1979s The Rose, with the title song winning a Grammy. She performed in Beaches (1988) and also sang on the film's soundtrack, with the tune "Wind Beneath My Wings" becoming a major hit. She also performed and sang on the soundtrack for 1991's For the Boys. She also continued her pop career and in 1990 performed the Grammy-winning, "From A Distance." She continued to perform and record throughout the 90s, as well as into the new millennium. Her fabulous figure, powerful voice and sassy style are as youthful and energetic as ever as she takes on the role as resident performer at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Take a bow, the Divine Miss M. You deserve it!
