Billy Joel is one of the most prolific singer/songwriters to have ever lived. Growing up in suburban Hicksville, Long Island Joel was a rough neck kid. Joel began playing in local bands in the late 60’s finding minimal success while with the band Attila. In 1971 Joel signed with Family Productions as a song writer. Joel’s debut album was called Cold Spring Harbor which the production was poor causing Joel’s voice to sound nasal.

gh this was not the most desirable part of the music business, his experiences while on the road spawned a classic album. Piano Man put Joel in the limelight with hits such as “Piano Man,” “Traveling’ Prayer,” and “Worse Comes to Worse.” After having a good deal of success, Joel released this third solo album called Streetlife Serenade. Again the album was a top seller with a hit song “The Entertainer.” “New York State of Mind” was also a huge hit while gaining a huge fan base especially in New York.
When Joel released The Stranger in 1977 he had a string of hit singles. “Just the Way You Are,” “Movin’ Out,” “She’s Always a Woman,” and “Only the Good Die Young,” made Joel into a star. The album won two Grammy awards in 1979. Joel continued to produce more hits throughout the early 80’s with songs like “Big Shot,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” “Say Goodbye to Hollywood.” His next two albums also received commercial success with The Nylon Curtain, and An Innocent Man. Joel had seven consecutive Top Ten albums. Joel recorded numerous chart-topping albums and is known as a living legend.
