England, as a four piece band comprising: Steve Scoley, Terry Dalton, Colin Routh and Alan Barton, but it was as a duo comprising of Colin Routh (Gibb) and Alan Barton that they enjoyed their greatest chart success. Black Lace first came into the public eye after being selected to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979 in which they finished in 7th position with the song "Mary Ann". Their career began to take off following the 1983 release of their song "Superman" It was followed by the 1984 hit "Agadoo," which got to number 2 in the UK charts being kept off the top spot by George Michael's "Careless Whisper". "Agadoo" went on to spend a total of thirty weeks in the UK top 75 singles, and along with the single "Do the Conga" catapulted Black Lace's first UK album, Party Party, to double platinum status and TV shows in Germany, Luxemburg, France and Denmark. The band would go on to have further hit singles in "Mimic Man" and "Music Man" and would also cover tunes by other artists including, The Sweet's "Wig Wam Bam", The Village People's "YMCA" and Los Del Rio's "Macarena". They were immortalized in the spoof British TV show "Spitting Image" in the mid-1980s, with "The Chicken Song" a parody of "Agadoo." .Alan Barton died in 1995, while Colin Gibb continued to perform at the LA Showbar at the Beverly Hills Club in Tenerife, UK.
