Blake Shelton music biography continued...
honed his musical skills at the local honky tonks and television shows, and earned statewide attention when he won the Denbo Diamond Award, the top award for young Oklahoma entertainers. After completing high school in 1994, he moved to Nashville, where he was able to score songwriting deals with several music publishing companies. Through contacts there, he able to secure a recording contract with Warner Brothers Nashville in 2001, and released his self-titled debut album soon after. His debut single, "Austin," stayed at number one on Billboard's singles chart for five weeks, tying Billy Ray Cyrus' record for a debut single. In 2003, he released his sophomore project, The Dreamer. The lead single, "The Baby" became his second number one song. Two other songs didn't fare as well, and in 2004, Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill was released. It contained the humorous "Some Beach," which also catapulted to number one. The album also contained a cover of Conway Twitty's "Goodbye Time," and "Nobody But Me," which peaked at 10 and 4 respectively. Shelton continued his chart topping ways in 2006, with the release of Pure BS, an album which yielded the number one hit, "Home," a song that was subsequently made popular on the pop charts by singer Michael Buble. Shelton released Startin' Fires in 2008, with the lead single, "She Wouldn't Be Gone" going straight to number one for two weeks. With this effort, it was clear that Blake Shelton wouldn't be gone from Nashville anytime soon.
