Blue October music biography continued...
Furstenfeld, drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, violinist Ryan Delahoussaye, bassist Matt Noveskey, and lead guitarist Brant Coulter. Managed by Justin and Jeremy's parents under the name "RoDan Entertainment," Blue October self-released their first album, The Answers, in 1998, a well-received debut which sold over 5,000 copies in Houston alone. Due to a fan-based connection with a local ABC affiliate, Blue October was able to schedule an early-morning news performance — the band's first live television performance. They caught the attention of the major labels and signed with Universal Records in 1999, soon after releasing their second album, Consent to Treatment. Though it received critical praise, the release fared poorly commercially and Universal dropped the group. They soon signed with Brando Records, made a line-up change (replacing Coulter) and came out with their third album, 2003's History For Sale. The album spawned a single called "Calling You," which became a hit after it was featured on the movie soundtrack to American Wedding. Later, hits off of History for Sale included "Inner Glow" and "Razorblade." However, "Calling You" remained the group's largest mainstream success until their 2006 single, "Hate Me," which peaked at number two on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. The music video for "Hate Me" debuted on VH1 and became an instant hit, resulting in invitations to perform the tune on all the late night talk shows, and in the band's resigning with Universal Records. Blue October, it seemed had finally arrived.
The band's fourth album, titled Foiled for the Last Time, was released on in September 2007. As a result of reaching a new audience that Blue October has found with its Foiled album, Blue October has recently undergone an expansion of its tour locations. Originally restricted to Texas and parts of the Midwest and Southwest United States, Blue October is now touring locations covering the entire continental United States, in addition adding stops in Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, England, the Philippines, Germany and the Netherlands to their schedule. As the band prepares their fifth album, which will be produced by Steve Lillywhite of U2 and Dave Mathews Band fame, they are anything but blue.
